Cupcake Camp 2 - December 7, 2008, San Francisco CA

General items needed:

  • Nametags
  • Placecards/labels(for the cupcakes in judges' box)
  • Cups, plates, cutlery, napkins
  • Platters
  • Plastic/vinyl table covers(to make clean-up faster and easier)
  • Garbage bags, paper towels, cleaning stuff
  • Additional garbage bins(?)
  • Beverages - for items that need to be chilled(milk, soy milk, water, white wine, tea, champange etc...), ask those bringing the items to bring in a cooler w/ ice if possible
  • Coolers with ice
  • Boxes for cupcakes (small for people to take home cupcakes and a few really large ones for the judges to place the to-be-judged cupcakes in)

Receiving/Staging Area

  • Several tables or large counterspace needed to hold all cupcake submissions
  • Placecards with cupcake name/type, baker, category(?) for each submission
  • Recipe cards(optional) - recipes will be posted on wiki before/after the event
  • Different color/style nametags for bakers, bringers of cupcakes
  • Marianne, Lynn and Ariel are responsible for taking 1 cupcakes from *each* cupcake type and placing them in a baker's box for later judging

Sessions

  • Each baker has 30 seconds-1 min to talk about their creation (Ingredients, prep, inspiration, etc...)
    • Good idea - we have to think about how we would get everyone's attention and coordinate bringing out the cupcakes with the speech
    • We could use a little bell or alarm clock? I've got a cute little cupcake one that could be perfect. -M
  • Need at least 2 main tables if not more for people to flock to
    • Definitely more tables :) -M

[work in progress...]

Fan favorite contest(?)

  • How would this work on top of the 3 category competition?
    • Might be a little chaotic - Ariel.
    • It wouldn't necessarily be for a certain category, just an overall favorite that people can fill out cards or do show of hands, more interactivity and participation by all attendees. -Marianne
  • Since it's the holidays, we could collect canned goods/donations to give to local food bank or charity.
    • Was planning on creating a donation bucket with an optional $5 donation from guests at the door to cover the costs that we pay out of pocket - Ariel
    • I've noticed a few bakers haven't decided on what they're bringing. Wouldn't it be cute if we had a bunch of plain cupcakes(chocolate, vanilla w/ or w/o frosting) that could be decorated? A decorating station? Bring a canned good or donate $1 or more and decorate your own cupcake.  This, too, could encourage more interactivity. -M
